TB- Nutritional Support

To fuel the government’s fight against TB, Sharen Care Foundation collaborated with Nikshay Poshan Yojana in the state of Rajasthan to provide nutritional support and counseling to TB patients.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India launched the scheme “Nikshay Poshan Yojana” in 2018 for incentives for nutritional support to TB patients. The scheme aims to support every Tuberculosis (TB) Patient by providing them with nutritional needs.

India is the country with the highest burden of TB. The World Health Organization (WHO) statistics for 2016 give an estimated incidence figure of 2.8 million cases of TB in India out of a global incidence of 10.2 million. TB is not only rising, but we are also now seeing severe forms of multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB). While the Indian government has done well to make TB treatment freely available, the public sector alone cannot control TB. To fuel the government’s fight against TB, Sharen Care Foundation collaborated with Nikshay Poshan Yojana in the state of Rajasthan to provide nutritional support to TB patients.

With constant efforts, our team has now successfully distributed 300+ nutritional support packages to patients suffering from Tuberculosis in Rajasthan. In the districts of Chittorgarh and Sirohi, we have adopted 40 TB patients. For the duration of 6 months, Sharen Care Foundation will be funding and providing nutritional supplements to the respective patients. Our team is also providing counseling sessions to TB patients.

Our mission is to eradicate TB from India and establish a healthy TB-free community. To advocate change, our trainers mobilized the communities on Tuberculosis and the necessity to seek treatment while conducting nutrition support drives. We also organized training sessions in schools in Rajasthan to teach secondary school children about TB, its causes, symptoms, and treatment.
