Sharen Care Foundation came together with a fellow Gurugram-based environmental organization, Paryavarn Sanrakshan Gatividhi to mobilize waste management and demolish plastic bags from the markets. The theme of the project is to minimize the usage of plastic carry bags by replacing them with effective alternatives of cloth bags. These cloth bags are stitched and made by women working as house helps in societies
The project's mission is to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable alternatives. Plastic pollution is a major environmental problem that affects our oceans, wildlife, and human health. By reducing the usage of plastic carry bags, the project helps to prevent plastic waste from ending up in landfills, oceans, and other natural environments.
Moreover, the project has an additional social benefit. By providing employment opportunities to women who work as house helps, the project helps to empower women and reduce economic inequality. Many women who work as domestic helpers are from low-income backgrounds and may not have access to other forms of employment or income. By involving them in the production of cloth bags, the project not only provides them with a source of income but also helps to build their skills and confidence.
The project's focus on involving local organizations and women in the production of cloth bags helps to build community engagement and support for sustainable practices. By working with local groups, the project can leverage local knowledge and resources to create more effective solutions to environmental and social challenges.
